Volunteer Tax Counselors Needed in Putnam

Tax season will soon be here and Hudson Valley C.A.$.H. Coalition is looking for volunteers to help low- to moderate-income taxpayers file their taxes at four sites throughout Putnam County.

As a volunteer tax counselor, one would assist clients in preparing their Federal and State tax returns. Volunteers are required to complete 20 to 40 hours of daytime classroom and self-study education during December through the AARP Foundation, which is certified by the IRS. Volunteers must also commit 5 to 8 hours per week from mid-January to mid-April at either the Brewster, Kent, Mahopac or Patterson site. To be considered for the tax-counselor position, one should have some experience in tax preparation; having at least filed their own personal taxes. One must also be computer literate.

Hudson Valley C.A.$.H. Coalition (Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope) is a group of business, community, education, government, religious, and social organizations, including the United Way of Westchester and Putnam, dedicated to helping families and individuals in the Hudson Valley save money and improve their financial stability.

Since 1968, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has been helping low- to moderate-income taxpayers obtain more discretionary income for everyday essentials like food and housing through its free tax services that ensure taxpayers receive all applicable tax credits and deductions.
