health

The United Way of Westchester and Putnam (UWWP) recognizes that in order to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors struggling to make ends meet, we have to take a wholistic approach to their challenges by focusing on their financial stability, education goals, and physical and mental health. Indeed, we know first-hand from the hundreds of thousands of calls to our 211 Helpline that often when individuals and families are facing one challenge, they are also grappling with several other issues which are interconnected.

UWWPs Health initiatives are as varied as the community we serve.

Growing Together

In collaboration with Westchester County’s 0-6 Committee and the Westchester County Legislature, UWWPs Growing Together program is a health equity initiative designed to help expecting parents and caregivers of newborns and young children access information in English and Spanish around nutrition, health, play, safety, child development, attachment parental wellness and so much more.

Ride United Last Mile

Through UWWPs Ride United Last Mile food delivery and other food delivery efforts, we partner with local food banks and pantries as well as DoorDash to deliver fresh produce and other food items to the frail elderly, disabled individuals, veterans, and other struggling families throughout Westchester and Putnam.  Every year, we deliver tens of thousands of pounds of food across tens of thousands of deliveries.

Westchester COAD

The Westchester Community Organizations Active in Disaster (Westchester COAD) is a network of the faith-based, nonprofit, governmental, business, and other organizations and agencies which provides a coordinated recovery effort to meet the unmet needs of Westchester County residents impacted during times of disasters like hurricanes or the recent pandemic.

211 Helpline

Our 211 Helpline which answers calls across four regions of New York State including the Hudson Valley, Long Island, Adirondack and Capital Regions, offers health and human services information, referral, assessment, and crisis support to help callers find the assistance they need to address the everyday challenges of living, as well as those that develop during times of disaster and other community emergencies. Available 24/7/365, our trained and empathetic call specialists offer a reassuring voice while providing real-time referrals to programs and services that can help with basic needs like food, shelter, rent, and utility assistance just to name a few.
