Application deadline is June 6, 2011

     Dear Ruth Taylor Award Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the 2011-12 Ruth Taylor scholarship award. There are two important criteria that must be met first and verified in writing in order to qualify for this award:

  • You must be a legal resident of the United States and Westchester County (although you may attend school elsewhere); and,
  • You must be enrolled in graduate studies in Social Work or Public Health on a full-time basis.

In reviewing applications, the Selection Committee conducts its evaluation using the following criteria, in this order of priority: public service interest, financial need, and scholastic capacity.  In addition, the essay is used to evaluate applicants’ written communication skills, a criterion used in scoring applications.  Please be certain to complete all areas of the application, which will enable the Selection Committee to most accurately assess these criteria.

An award application for the 2011-12 academic year is enclosed.  The completed application and all required supporting documents must be submitted as one packet to the address on page one of the application and postmarked no later than the application deadline of June 06, 2011.

The Ruth Taylor Award Committee is privileged to have this responsibility and opportunity to support public service through the achievements of award recipients.  We look forward to receiving your application.

About the Ruth Taylor Award Fund

The Ruth Taylor Award Fund, established in tribute to Ruth Taylor upon her retirement as Commissioner of Public Welfare of Westchester County and in recognition of her nearly four decades of outstanding service to the County in the field of social welfare and health, makes grants for scholarship awards, for tuition or maintenance, or both, to individuals who are residents of Westchester County pursuing graduate level education on a full-time basis at accredited U.S. colleges or schools in social welfare or health. Evaluation criteria utilized are financial need, public service and scholastic capacity; recipients must maintain the minimum cumulative University GPA for the duration of the award. Awards are issued annually, and recipients are eligible on a one-time only basis. A change in major or enrollment status will result in loss of the scholarship award. Inquiries can be directed to: United Way of Westchester and Putnam, Liset Reid, Program Associate, Administration via email at lreid@uwwp.org.
