All committees are composed of board and community members with expertise in specific areas. Committees and Task Forces are ongoing, unless otherwise noted. Meetings may be held by conference call or in person, as indicated by the following symbols:
COMMITTEE: Administration

CHARGE: To guide the development of policies and procedures related to the internal operations of the organization, including human resources; pension program and investment strategy; Information Systems; office support systems; facilities management; and operating and capital budget development.
TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 8-10 hours a year.

CHARGE: To identify, recruit and nominate the officers and representative members of the board, ensuring that the Board is representative of all parts of the community and its workforce.
TIME COMMITMENT: Meets 2-3 times a year. Also, 8-10 hours per year to recruit new board members.

CHARGE: To guide the development of policies and practices that enhance United Way’s image and visibility with key constituent groups and the public at large.
TIME COMMITMENT: Quarterly 2-hour meetings plus e-mail and phone calls.
COMMITTEE: Advocacy/Public Policy

CHARGE: To prioritize the issues for advocacy; and establish and track a strategic plan for advocacy (e.g. letters, e-mails, legislator visits) throughout the year.
TIME COMMITMENT: Quarterly meetings and annual advocacy event.
COMMITTEE: Steering Committee of the United Way Tocqueville Society of Westchester and Putnam

CHARGE: To lead a year-round major gifts effort for the Tocqueville Society.

CHARGE: Direct UWWP in the most financially responsible manner to ensure the well-being of the organization.
Ensure that the organization works within the guidelines stated by the GAAP and that the Finance Department complies with the established rules of operation, procedures, and policies related to confidential infor- mation. Review investment policy and ensure that policy is followed.
TIME COMMITMENT: Meets 6 times a year; 2 hours per meeting.

CHARGE: To develop strategy for the UWWP Annual Campaign and make campaign calls on key existing and potential workplace and community donors. To lead by example by supporting the Annual Campaign in a leadership giving capacity.
TIME COMMITMENT: 2-4 Committee meetings plus one-on- one meetings with corporate leaders and/or individuals on a select basis.
COMMITTEE: Putnam Community Impact Council
CHAIR: TBD
CHARGE: Provides expertise in all impact areas by involving volunteers from all parts of Putnam County. Shapes new initiatives to address issues identified in United Way’s Community Issues Assessment. Assumes responsibility for development, implementation and oversight of special funding initiatives and community building efforts. Identifies supplemental funding streams. Reviews proposals and recommends levels of support. Convenes partners to discuss how their services are working to achieve goals.
TIME COMMITMENT: Quarterly meetings in Putnam County.
COMMITTEE: Community Impact

Vice Chair, Community Initiatives
CHARGE: To help develop effective community impact strategies in the areas of United Way’s 3 building blocks: Education, Income, and Health. Also: to guide United Way’s Community Impact Task Forces as they engage the public in initiatives related to the issues identified in our Community Issues Assessment; to increase United Way’s visibility and involvement in community events and activities; and to monitor the Community Impact and management of donor gifts, targeted grants and endowments.
The Committee also guides the development and enhancement of United Way’s services to the not-for- profit community and works to increase access to health and human service information. It provides over- sight to the expansion of United Way’s Gifts in Kind program and the United Way-Pace University Not-for-Profit Management Center, and monitors the strategic alliance between United Way and The Volunteer Center of United Way.
TIME COMMITMENT: Meets 6-8 times a year.
COMMITTEE: Community Impact Task Forces (3)
CHAIRS: Appointed by the Vice Chair for Community Impact
CHARGE: United Way has created 3 working groups, or Task Forces, in our building block areas: Education, Income, and Health. The original mandate of the Task Forces was to assist with the Fall 2008 Community Issues Assessment; help shape Forums for each of the building block areas; and help refine the strategies that come out of the Forums. As of November 2009, 2 of the 3 Forums have been held, yet the work of the Task Forces is still vital. New members are needed to work with staff to evaluate program effect- tiveness on a quarterly basis.
MEMBERSHIP: Human Service experts, not-for-profit professionals, UWWP board members local Community Council members, donors, community leaders and advocates, and county government.
TIME COMMITMENT: Meets as needed, plus 2-4 hours reading Letters of Intent.
COMMITTEE: United Way-Pace University Not-for-Profit Management Center Advisory Committee
CHAIR: TBD
CHARGE: To advise on the development and implementation of the 5 major functions of the Not-for-Profit Management Center: multi-session courses, workshops/seminars, the Board Resource Team program and management consultation.
MEMBERSHIP: Representatives of United Way, Pace University, experts in topics related to not-for-profit management, and community members.
TIME COMMITMENT: Quarterly meetings.
COMMITTEE: Local Community Council Leadership
CHAIR: N/A
CHARGE: To share information, identify opportunities for collaboration, and address issues of common concern to the local United Way affiliated communities; and ensure the involve- ment of local community leadership in committee and task force activities.
TIME COMMITMENT: Meetings held twice a year.
